Approximately 50 per cent of the Institute’s membership is directly employed by insurance companies and the other half work as independent engineer assessors.
Membership of the Institute is determined by a combination of age, experience and qualifications. In addition to complying with the Institute's examination and training requirements, it is necessary for candidates applying for admission as members to have had at least two years experience in a responsible position in the profession. Members receive the IAEA journal, which covers the latest information from the Institute and the motor and insurance industries. The IAEA journal covers a wide range of subjects such as: Salvage,
Equipment reviews,
Failure analysis,
Security systems,
Accident/fire reconstructions and
Vehicle identification systems, just to name a few. More information, and PDF downloads are available here Members are required to take part in the Institute’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme. More and more insurers and work providers expect staff and independent engineers to undertake training to ensure that their job skills are current.
The newer technologies – video imaging, assessor software, and Thatcham Time Systems – are here to stay. Employers expect engineers to be multi-skilled, flexible individuals, capable of undertaking a number of different roles.
